Chocolate Tofu Mousse – Does tofu lower the risk of breast cancer?

By Hui Miao

The secret of this recipe is using tofu to replace whipped cream & egg yolk used in regular chocolate mousse recipes. By doing so, we can lower the amount of saturated fat and cholesterol that we take in. It doesn’t only satisfy our sweet tooth, but also saves us from the guilty feeling after eating desserts.

The texture is so smooth that none of my guests at many parties I hosted could tell the difference from regular chocolate mousse until I revealed the secret. And, of course, all of them were amazed by this TOFU dessert.

Ingredients (3 servings):

  • Soft/Silken tofu – 455 grams
  • 70% bittersweet chocolate – 90 grams
  • Unsweetened cacao powder
  • Water – ¼ Cup
  • Powdered Sugar – 4 Tbsp

Directions:

  1. Put tofu into a blender/mixer and blend it until it turns into a smooth mixture. Keep it in the blender/mixer for later use.
  2. Dissolve chocolate, cacao powder in a double boiler. Simply pour water into a saucepan and bring to boil. Put a heat-proof bowl on top the saucepan and put chocolate and cacao powder in the bowl. Stir until chocolate and cacao powder melted.

3. Put the dissolved mixture from Step 2 into the tofu mixture from Step 1.  Blend the two mixtures together and put it into the freezer for 1 hour.

4. If you want the final presentation to look a little bit fancier, you can add some whipped cream and chocolate flakes onto the chocolate mousse.
